I am a compassionate, respectful, strength-based therapist. I work with clients to find and utilize feelings of hope by focusing on goals and exceptions to “the problem”. Instead of only looking for what is wrong and how to fix it, we will look for what is right and how to use it. I specialize in working with individuals affected by ambiguous loss and grief that is not recognized or validated by our society. These feelings often come up due to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, chronic illness, relationship breakdown, and other types of loss.

I am formally trained in solution-focused brief therapy, but draw on many different modalities to work with clients at a pace that feels right for them. I previously worked with individuals, couples and families at Alzheimer Society Toronto and Jewish Family and Child Services, and hold a Master of Social Work degree from Toronto Metropolitan University. I am additionally trained in Gentle Persuasive Approaches, U-First! Advanced, MoCA, and Palliative Care in Dementia.

I believe that we all have the strengths and resources to deal with any challenge that life throws our way, that small positive changes lead to bigger changes, and that the focus should be on our desired future as opposed to only “the problem” and the past, while holding space for how some ongoing difficulties in our lives can continue to affect our present.

Jocelyn (she/her) completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Trent University. Following this, she worked in the community as a support worker for adults with developmental disabilities, which led her to recognize her passion for supporting people through challenging life circumstances, emotional difficulties, and goal-oriented activities. In pursuit of this passion, she completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Western University. During this time, she continued researching support programs for people with developmental disabilities and discovered her passion for working with adolescents and emerging adults.

In therapy, Jocelyn maintains the stance that all people are experts in their own experiences, therefore she strives to understand each individual’s perspective while assisting throughout their journey towards achieving their goals. The foundation for her work with clients is built on empathy, anti-oppressive practice, deep engagement, and a non-judgemental approach. Together, she and her clients uncover workable perspectives, ways of being, and interacting with others that align with their goals and values. Additionally, she understands that speaking to a therapist about challenging emotions and topics can feel incredibly vulnerable, so she is mindful about being respectful and trustworthy.

Jocelyn has experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, suicidality, self-harm, grief, attachment disruptions, disordered eating, LGBTQ2 identity, and interpersonal difficulties. In session, she draws on a variety of techniques to best suit the individual, their situation, and their goals. She primarily utilizes a systems perspective to develop individualized, trauma-informed, care plans consisting of techniques from a variety of evidence-based modalities.
